It is a six digit pin that you give to mint. Your number will still work during transfer. To continue to receive calls & messages from your current phone number, keep your other carrier's SIM in your phone until the transfer is complete. Transfer the number from your current carrier because updating contact info is a pain.

They can help with activation. That happened to me the other day. I literally rebooted the phone and it was activated. Same problem here. Customer service said my zip was invalid - even though it is not, and it is in their coverage area. They are supposedly looking into this.
